The Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok, the oldest and largest public hospital in Thailand, is using Eyesi Surgical simulators and the Eyesi Courseware for eye surgery education at the department of ophthalmology.
Under the supervision of Dr. La-Ongsri Atchaneeyasakul and Dr. Adisak Trivanarat, Siriraj Hospital is the first institution in Thailand to offer students and residents simulator-based eye surgery training. The institution makes wide use of the Eyesi Courseware, a multi-tier curriculum with courses for cataract and vitreoretinal surgery that comes with Eyesi Surgical. Printouts of courseware training reports are displayed on the walls of the simulator room, showing the training progress of all students. The best-scoring students are awarded with a ribbon on their training report. VRmagic is also very pleased to see that the simulators were given individual names – another indicator, although in this case a rather soft one, for the ever growing acceptance of simulator-based training in medical education and ophthalmology in particular.
Established in 1888 by H.M. King Chulalongkorn, the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University is the first hospital and the largest teaching medical center in Thailand. The Siriraj Hospital is also recognized as one of the largest hospitals and research centers in Southeast Asia.
