Class 9d of the Mannheim Karl-Friedrich-Gymnasium visited VRmagic on February 1. The pupils had the opportunity to try out the training simulators Eyesi Indirect and Eyesi Surgical.
The visit took place in the context of the subject “Naturwissenschaft und Technik (NwT)”. The subject NwT focuses on interdisciplinary and technology-orientated topics. Because the secondary school class was currently discussing the human eye, the leading provider of simulators eye specialist training invited the 20 students and two teachers to their premises.
Finding the right line of sight to the patient’s pupil, moving the lens contra-intuitive, aligning the lens in an appropriate distance to the patient’s eye – it takes practice to examine the retina with an indirect ophthalmoscope. The ninth class students could see for themselves by testing Eyesi Indirect. Eyesi Indirect is a simulator for the training of binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy. The simulator offers a highly realistic learning environment that enables users to train retinal examinations on a virtual patient. The students also had the chance to test their surgical skills with the intraocular surgery simulator Eyesi Surgical. The Eyesi Surgical Simulator trains surgical procedures in the anterior and posterior segment of the eye.
The visit to VRmagic had not been the first cooperation between VRmagic and the Karl-Friedrich-Gymnasium. In November 2011 students from the Karl-Friedrich-Gymnasium already had the chance to test an augmented-reality simulator for magnetic fields developed by VRmagic in collaboration with the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences.
