VRmagic presents Earsi Otoscope Simulator at IMSH in San Diego
At this year’s IMSH, the world’s largest conference dedicated to simulation in healthcare, VRmagic presented a new simulator for the training of otoscopy to an international audience of experts. With the Earsi Otoscope Simulator the Mannheim based company is extending its training opportunities to the field of otology.
With the virtual reality simulator VRmagic offers a new option to train the handling of the otoscope as well as the diagnosis of ear disorders. The handling of the simulator corresponds to a real otoscope. By looking through the lens of the simulator otoscope, the users see a complete and detailed 3D model of the external and middle ear enabling them to acquire diagnostic skills. Such a dynamic and detailed training environment is unprecedented in otology.
„The otoscope simulator is already the fourth training system by VRmagic that supplements the conventional medical education program with a standardized and quality assured training method”, explains Dr. Markus Schill, managing director of VRmagic. “As in the case of the ophthalmic simulators, the learning effect of the Earsi Otoscope is based on the realistic visualization and the curriculum, which was developed in close cooperation with hospitals and universities. The training device offers various advantages over conventional teaching methods.”
The training content is divided into consecutive courses of different difficulty. Therefore, the diagnosis of ear diseases can be trained independent from clinical work and patient flow. After each virtual examination, users receive immediate and objective feedback on their performance. Due to the fact that all training data is saved, educators have a clear picture of their students learning progress. This structured method of learning is particularly efficient and cost-saving. The training datacan be accessed from any PC or mobile device.
The delivery of the otoscopy simulator to clinics and universities will start in June.
