Logo Haag-Streit Simulation

With the new software release 1.6.12, Haag-Streit presents an extended courseware for the Eyesi Slit Lamp simulator. New features range from an introductory online course and basic examination training of the anterior segment to more demanding tasks for gonioscopic examinations and a new virtual patient presenting with pigment dispersion syndrome.

All networked Eyesi Slit Lamp simulators will receive the software update automatically in the next days.

Basic skills training

New course on standard anterior segment examination

A new course on examinations of the anterior segment has been added to the Eyesi Slit Lamp courseware: The tasks aim at beginners gaining routine in examining patients' eyelids, conjunctiva, and cornea. Green and red marks help trainees in learning to keep the examination area focused. Moreover, trainees can now retract the eyelids to examine the upper and lower bulbar conjunctiva.

Blended learning

New online course on slit lamp basics

An introduction to slit lamp components and basic handling has been added to the complementary online courses available on the VRmNet platform. The course outlines how to position the slit lamp in front of the patient eye and to set the focus by moving the slit lamp base. Further, it illustrates how to adjust the various illumination settings and set the microscope arm and its related features to get optimal images.

Findings and diagnoses

New case: pigment dispersion syndrome

A new virtual patient presenting with pigment dispersion syndrome is introduced in tier C1, “Findings and diagnoses”. Trainees are guided through the examination by visual marks and medical background information on the different findings, such as iris transillumination, Kruckenberg spindle, angle pigmentation, or Sampaolesi’s line.

Gonioscopy training

Corneal wedge around the clock

The new gonioscopy course in tier A2 features several tasks to train visualization of the chamber angle using the corneal wedge technique. A basic gonioscopy task is followed by examinations of the superior/inferior and nasal/temporal chamber angle, including rotating the slit light and tilting the illumination column to create the corneal wedge in different segments. Finally, a thorough 360° examination aims at improving gonioscopy skills of more advanced trainees.
