Invest in the future of ophthalmic training!
The Ophthalmic Skills Training Center is a service by Haag-Streit to support residency programs in advancing their facilities to a state-of-the-art training environment. With the combination of wet lab working stations using Haag-Streit Hi-R NEO 900 microscopes and high-end Eyesi training simulators, Haag-Streit has designed a genuine educational setup that offers residents a close-to-life training environment.

A realistic training environment for optimal transition of skills to the OR
State-of-the-art equipment
The unique combination of wet lab stations and Eyesi simulators offers residents a highly effective training environment, enabling an optimal transistion of acquired skills to the OR. Residents can systematically hone their skills by absolving the didactically structured simulator curriculum and alternately working on Haag-Streit Hi-R NEO 900 microscopes. Moreover, the simulator’s means for evaluation and monitoring gives educators and residents confidence in the acquired skill level – before entering the OR.
Comfortable & stimulating training environment
Ergonomic workplaces
While working on Haag-Streit Hi-R NEO 900 microscopes with the Vertiscope and electronically height adjustable table, residents can learn and practice proper ergonomic posture which is reinforced later in the operating room. At the same time, with a comfortable and stimulating training environment, residents will take their time in the training lab to hone their skills for expert performance.

Media infrastructure
Enabling collaborative learning
The live view of the Hi-R NEO 900 microscopes or the Eyesi Surgical simulators can be displayed on large monitors in the training room for collaborative learning. A custom app makes it easy for instructors to operate the video system from a wall mounted touch screen or a mobile device such as an iPad.
How it started
Collaboration & innovation
In 2016, Haag-Streit worked closely with Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute to pioneer a new concept for the wet lab and design their ‘Center of Excellence for Ophthalmic Surgical Education and Training’. This was followed by a project with Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, USA, for their ‘Measey Ophthalmic Surgical Training (MOST) Laboratory’ in 2019 to further innovate the concept. Today, more than ten Ophthalmic Skills Training Centers have been implemented in the United States. Watch the video for a testimonial from Douglas M. Wisner, MD, and Joseph P. Bilson, Chief Ecexutive Officer, on the innovative collaboration with Wills Eye Hospital.
