VRmagic provides a direct ophthalmoscopy simulator as a loan
to the TECHNOSEUM for the special exhibition “Herzblut – Geschichte und
Zukunft der Medizintechnik”.
The direct ophthalmoscopy is an examination of the fundus of the eye used by eye specialists, general practitioners, internists, neurologists, diabetologists, or emergency doctors. Diseases such as high blood pressure or diabetes can be diagnosed before the patient shows other symptoms. Therefore, learning direct ophthalmoscopy is an integral part of undergraduate medical education. With VRmagic’s Eyesi Direct Ophthalmoscope Simulator, students can train direct ophthalmoscopy on virtual patients. The simulator is part of the special exhibition “Herzblut – Geschichte und Zukunft der Medizintechnik” at the TECHNOSEUM in Mannheim that started in November.
The Eyesi Direct Ophthalmoscope Simulator uses virtual reality to deliver an innovative new way of teaching the essential diagnostic skill of direct ophthalmoscopy. With Eyesi Direct medical students can train direct ophthalmoscopy independent from clinical work and patient flow. Eyesi Direct offers a highly immersive and realistic training experience that almost feels like a real examination. Further, the simulator ensures that all users who have successfully accomplished the training have a defined knowledge.
The exhibition traces the development of medical technology from the 16th century until today. More than 500 exhibits show how all began with the study of the human body and how it led to modern, scientificallybased medicine. Accurate reproductions, elaborately designed theme rooms and a wide range of interactive offerings highlight the most important development stages of modern medicine and present the latest state-of-the-art technology.
The exhibition runs from November 5, 2014 to June 7, 2015. Opening hours are daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
