Mannheim, Germany. The 7th European Vitreoretinal Drylab, a surgery training event using Eyesi Surgical simulators, was held from 8 to 9 December 2012 and once again gained very positive feedback from all participants.
A drylab is a hands-on surgical training event where eye surgery simulation is used to provide a realistic surgical experience as opposed to training on pigs’ eyes. The drylab took place in the premises of VRmagic in Mannheim with a scientific program on the first day and free training on the second day. The scientific program comprised several main blocks, each starting with a theoretical introduction followed by practical exercises on the Eyesi Surgical simulator. These included vitrectomy techniques, membrane peelings, and treatment of retinal detachments. The theoretical introductions were held by Prof. Dr. med. Frank Koch, Eye Clinic Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt, PD Dr. med. Klaus Lucke MB ChB, Eye Clinic Universitätsallee Bremen, and Dr. rer. nat. Clemens Wagner, VRmagic.
The participants came from all over Europe, some of them taking part for the first time, others already having attended previous drylabs. All participants of the European Vitreoretinal Drylab are entitled to 13 CME (Continuing Medical Education) credit points.
