Breaking new ground for OEM applications - VRmagic introduces smart FPGA-camera series

Mannheim, Germany. Presenting the FPGA-series of their USB camera portfolio, the German manufacturer VRmagic opens up new perspectives on industrial image processing: An internal 64 MB buffer prevents loss of image data and optimizes the use of bandwidth when operating multiple USB components. Lossless compression of the image data is possible in real time. All color cameras operate with ten bit and High-Quality Bayer converter.

“With the FPGA-series VRmagic offers high-performance cameras at an attractive price-performance ratio”, states Dr. Markus Schill, Managing Director at VRmagic. The smart image processing components of the FPGA-series allow for integration of customers´ demands on the device, e.g. to reduce the data load of the host system.

For integration of the camera modules into existing applications VRmagic has enhanced the features of the software development kit. “The new features are compatible to all former VRmagic cameras and frame grabber – saving developers additional programming”, explains Thomas Ruf, Director Research and Development at VRmagic.

With the support of USB 1.x and USB 2.0 the components meet industrial computing standards. The use of cable lengths up to 150 feet is practicable as well as data transmission via non high frequency compliant interfaces. Through various functions for camera control and picture acquisition cameras by VRmagic have been successfully established in the field of industrial and scientific image processing. After introducing the first certified USB 2.0 camera to the market in March 2003, VRmagic has been continually expanding their modular system of professional camera components.
